Try and find someone to talk to who’s already in business. They’re great people to bounce ideas off, and you get a lot of comfort knowing that you’re on the right track. Also look at other areas where you could get advice from.

Every sector has a trade association. They’re worth joining, even if it’s just for a year or so, so you can get to know people in your field. In a lot of cases the industry talks about what things don’t work, so they’re definitely useful for avoiding certain pitfalls and common mistakes. Trade shows are great as well- you always meet someone new, or you come away feeling satisfied that you’re on the right track. Networking in the right places is really important for your business.
