mistakes to avoid

When we sold Intelligent Database marketing the first time, the biggest mistake I made was taking my eye off the ball. I have an internal joke- you don’t have a dog and bark yourself. The MD we had at the time pretty much screwed the business up, but I had taken my eye off the ball.

I don’t necessarily view that as a cock- up though. In my first five years in business we didn’t really have many downsides of note; it was pretty much all upsides. Whilst that was good, you don’t learn as much as you do when something goes wrong. That’s a part of life; what you need to do is get on with it and make sure you don’t do it again. That’s what makes a true entrepreneur.
