I’d seen that my mum starting her own business had transformed our lives. I didn’t have an inside toilet till I was fifteen, but the difference that my mum’s entrepreneurial activity made, albeit on a fairly modest basis, was fantastic. We were able to move house, and it just enhanced our lives really.
It also made an impact on my outlook on life. I had a long academic career collecting all sorts of degrees, but working on the family business during the summer holiday, I could see the difference taking place, and got a real enjoyment from it. I knew from that point that I wanted to create something myself and set up my own business.
