The business cannot be beholden on me, though trying to find good quality management for small businesses I believe is a real challenge. Nothing I’d learned in big business or during my MBA prepared me for running a small business.
I’ve been through a few corporate managers but unfortunately they didn’t seem to know how to do anything, nor did they have an interest to do something. It was like, “Well I have a man to do that.” Not here they didn’t, they needed to find out how to tackle problems on their own.
So that was an issue, but I don’t think me taking complete control would have been the best solution. Anyone with drive, enthusiasm and commitment would have been able to do it. That’s why I try and encourage the people who work for me to grasp the opportunities before them, even though it may be risky.
