Bingo needs liquidity, it needs lots of players otherwise it just doesn’t work. But I couldn’t get enough people to come to the site so I knew that I needed help. I took the idea to the Sun newspaper but they actually killed the deal a couple of times. They’d never had a gambling product so it was a risk for them too but I just had this strong feeling that I could get them to sign.

I kept hassling the editor but she wasn’t keen on the idea so I went backwards to the senior management and tried different ways of getting in. On two or three occasions the whole thing was grinding to a halt but each time I kept banging away and we managed to sign a deal. Now the Sun are making more money from online bingo than anything else online and our business is going from strength to strength.
