my background>

" I left school with absolutely nothing; no qualifications whatsoever. People said “She has the brains to do things, she just doesn’t want to apply them to anything.” I could quite easily have gone down the route of doing absolutely nothing or I could have gone down the route of getting a job and working hard for a living. Thankfully I chose the latter and I was lucky enough when I was 19, I was interviewed by a guy who thought, there’s a bit of a spark there. He saw something in me that I didn’t realise I had- the potential to become something better than I was. On his recommendation, I worked in regional field management for 11 years, starting at the bottom and working my way up. Owning my own business was never on the agenda until I was made redundant. Trying to find something similar on such a good salary was incredibly hard. Retail is what I know and what I’m good at, so when I saw a gap in the market for a shop with all your party needs under one roof, I went for the opportunity and I’ve never looked back since. This all wouldn’t have been possible without the support of my friends and family; their constant encouragement and backing has meant so much to me. "

why i want to win>

" To get the chance to speak to people who’ve been in my shoes, who’ve been there and done it and can point you in the right direction, away from the danger areas, would be amazing. An entrepreneur who’s started small and got bigger and bigger- I’d just love to sit down and have a conversation with this person and ask them, this is the way I want to go, what’s the best way of getting there? That was the driving force behind me entering the Challenge- to be able to pick someone’s brains. Quite honestly, if you speak to people I went to school with, there’s not many who would tell you that I would be here running my own business. I can guarantee that they would all suspect I’d be down and out. There’s nothing better than being able to shout about what we’re good at here in the North East, but I don’t think we shout loud enough. I just think this is a brilliant opportunity to tell the rest of the country, “Look what we’ve got up here. If we can do it, you can do it. "

why i'm sure i'll suceed>

" I’ve got a passion to succeed and I know my business is going places. I want to make the business bigger than what it is and I know I’ll put to great use the opportunity to speak to entrepreneurs who are able to help me. My aspirations were, and still are, to create a one stop party shop for all party needs, with the best quality goods and service you can find. I then want this to be recreated in several shops around the North East. Happy customers is what gives me the great feeling about my business, knowing that they will and do receive the best service possible. and I wouldn’t plough this much time and effort into a business if people did not appreciate the product and service, without having the foresight to take it further.
