In 2003 we were both on the brink of redundancy working for a company subject to buyout. Both Denise and I always felt that we had something extra to offer. It was hard working for a company that was subject to buyout. We were also frustrated that it no matter how good a job we did recognition of this would never go beyond those four walls.

We then finally decided to go it alone, purchasing a domestic cleaning franchise to service the Northumberland area.

We were both brought up in the North East and met eighteen years ago through work and soon became best friends out of the office. Realising that we worked well together, we made plans to take control of our own future by branching out on our own despite both of us being in our early fifties.

We decided to purchase Molly Maid, a domestic cleaning franchise to service north Northumberland and into the borders, an area previously considered too big and remote to be a potential market. Our business offers a domestic cleaning service specifically tailored to our customer’s individual needs and budget.

From the outset we wanted to start a business that provided a worthwhile service that benefited the Northumberland area rather than simply selling products for commercial gain. We saw a need for a meaningful and respected market that we both had previous experience in.

We are very keen to offer a service that can be used by anyone no matter their requirements - big or small. Our business has been built on the foundations of creating trust with our customers and gaining their respect through an honest and sincere service.

Since starting the business we have enjoyed a number of accolades including the Wansbeck Forum New Business of the Year award last year. But our biggest sense of achievement is when we provide a valuable and well deserved service to a wide variety of clients including the elderly, busy families and people who suffer from a disability.

Someone who is prepared to follow their ambitions and dreams have the makings of a successful entrepreneur. It is also important to find something you have a passion for and believe in, that’s what Lorna and I did and we haven’t looked back since.
