I was a radio presenter, DJ and producer and worked at Metro Radio, Galaxy 1056 and Ministry of Sound. I met pluggers (people who get music artists exposure and raise their profile) and liked what they did.
I became a work experience plugger for a music PR company, but I got made redundant. I decided to hit the ground running and went on a music course at Generator and learnt about funding. I realised I was capable of setting up my own business. I developed 1-2-hear, my music PR company.
I had a mentor at Generator and a business advisor, and they helped me realise my vision of being able to work with bands I really believe in.
To date the business has been very successful; my biggest success was securing national radio airplay at Radio 1 for a local electro artist Razmataz Lorry Excitement.
Although the business consumes me at the moment and is a lot of hard work, it’s also a lot of fun. If you’re thinking about starting your own business, remember to keep focused and motivated and have self belief…you will succeed!
