In terms of employees, I would like to think that if someone’s not doing their job properly it’s not because they’re dishonest or doing something they shouldn’t. I think, why is it that they’re not doing as good a job, can we re-train them?
I think with suppliers and contractors as well, I’ve maybe given people a bit too much slack. Someone’s come up with a good story, they haven’t done it because of x, y and z, they seem canny and genuine and I believe them.
I like to believe the best in people and I think that’s possibly hindered us a little over the years. I’ve learnt to be a bit more ruthless and go with my instinct more when it comes to employees and suppliers.
