my background>

" I was born in Darlington and grew up in Chester-le-street. I’ve never had much of a business background but I decided to take the plunge and start my own company, Trampas The Mens Room, twelve months ago after identifying a distinct lack of male grooming salons in the area. I noticed that a lot of men showed an interest in female salons but shied away from them. Working in partnership with my 20-year-old son I set out to create a salon, unique to Durham, with a comfortable atmosphere that appealed to the male population. I’ve love working for myself and as well as running a number of businesses, I work part time as a nursing sister. "

why i want to win>

" Being recognised for what you have achieved is a real moral boost. It is so fulfilling to see your ideas come together and then other people start to notice them. Each time you achieve something, for example if I won this competition, it pushes you on to new levels and possibilities, as well as new challenges. When you’re running your own business, every day is a learning experience which I have really enjoyed. Learning about my business through seeing what things work and others that don’t has been invaluable. It’s all about taking these experiences and using them to move the business forward. "

why i'm sure i'll suceed>

" I feel I have achieved a great deal in the short time the business has been running. To simply get the business off the ground and turning it into a reality has made me immensely proud. I have aspirations for where I want to go with the company. I want to continue the success of the business, carry on to learning as an entrepreneur and possibly grow the company. There are a number of staple traits an entrepreneur must have to be successful. You have to be open in your nature, to enjoy interacting with people and to also learn from your experiences – whether they are successes or failures. Passion about what you are doing is also vital, as is commitment and determination to achieve your goals which is what I try to do every day. "

New Stylist to work with Jaclyn

In salon this morning just catching up, Damon is joining us as a stylist to work with Jaclyn so salon will be open till 8pm from June 9th, feel really confident with the great staff Im working with.
I was really pleased with the editorial in this weeks Northern Echo which continues to give the business credibility and enhances its profile.
Hoping the salon is beginning to have its own personality and clients feeling comfortable and relaxed, just deciding which treatment to offer as treatment of the month, think it will be the Vitamin C facials.

Good Luck to everyone else in the competition and looking forward to seeing you all again

Exciting visit

I had a visit from Entrepreneurs' Forum director Peter Vardy to Trampas which was exciting. He booked in under his name so I knew to expect him and he had a hair cut. It was great to have that personal support with the Forum as a finalist in the competition.
The business is going well. It is getting busier by the day. I work part time as a nurse and run Trampas with my son. We do hair cuts and traditional wet shaves amongst other services. We were taught the craft of wet shaves by celebrity French barber Daniel Rouah who tends to some of the Chelsea football players. He came and did a work shop for us which was great. We also do holistic treatments such as massage, reflexology and hot stones.
We have come up with some great packages for customers such as the Stag Shaving Party where the groom goes free and has a complimentary manicure and beer!
I also run a flower business called Fragrant Symphony where we have set up a parallel diary of dates from customers and then a few days before we text them and ask if they would like any flowers. I love the creative side of running my own business and coming up with ideas.
I found the Entrepreneurs' Conference and the speakers there so inspiring. I hope I can use those pearls of wisdom to apply to my business.
I still have time for my hobbies too. I am a wale and dolphin lover so I became a marine mammal medic. If ever one was stranded I could tend to it until the vet arrived.

Entrepreneurs Forum Annual Conference, Progres5ive'

I was so impressed by the conference. There were an awful lot of people there from all backgrounds and with diverse businesses. For where I am in my business at the moment it was really inspiring.
I was so grateful for the opportunity to attend the conference and meet my peers, from the other challenge finalists to the established entrepreneurs. The speeches were amazing and I got so much information in the form of advice and tips to take away and think about.
This is a really exciting time for me and my fellow finalists. The challenge has given me renewed inspiration and energy and the conference really topped that off.
It was am amazing day and made all the more special by being there with the other finalists.
