Defining Moment
I was born in Alnwick in 1979 and had a happy childhood. I attended Central High School in Newcastle and eventually went on to complete a Business Information Management degree in Edinburgh. I stayed there for seven years working as an IT consultant for the Bank of Scotland after I graduated.
Although I enjoyed my job I found that I rarely worked with people, something that I really wanted to do. At the time my mum worked in training, and at the age of 24 I started doing business consultancy for small companies and eventually became a partner with my mum to start Training Solutions (NE) Ltd.
This business focuses on flexible learning for adults in various domains such as numeracy, literacy, IT and business skills. I also help to get individuals back into work by delivering the New Deal programme and providing a CV and information, advice and guidance service. We have recently expanded our portfolio of learning to include the Construction CSCS cards.
I also started Recruitment Solutions (NE) Ltd which was developed as a sister company to Training Solutions (NE) Ltd. We aim to provide a generic service to find suitable employees for our clients. We run both temporary and permanent desks and pride ourselves on using local knowledge and local people to fill local vacancies.
